Florida Gators -- 2008 Hallow Champions

It's been 8 months since the BCS destroyed the college football season last year, and this morning, July 16th at 7:51 am, I reflected momentarily on the current champion of college football, Florida, and what followed in my mind was the inner voice saying, "So what."

Not "Mad props for a job well done." , Not, "they were a deserving champion,", no jealousy of any kind, just an empty hollow, "so what."

Florida, just because you are called the champions, doesn't mean you are.

I recall seeing Florida quarterback Tim Tebow acknowledging the Gator crowd at their championship ceremony, and I remember seeing all the Gators national championship T-shirt ads at sites like Yahoo sports and ESPN, and all I can think about now, as I did then, was how big a lie this is.

How would you react if a Gator fan came up to your face and bragged about their 2008 championship?

Hell, the 2006 champion Gators were a much more legitimate champion than this lie that is the 2008 Gators. That team earned it. In 2006, two top teams emerged from the pack, Ohio State and Florida. Michigan played well, but lost to Ohio State 42-39.

It's a shame that, in college football, a fan not only has to root for their team to win the national championship, they also have to hope that their championship is valid.

2008 College Football season = 1994 Major League Baseball season, but without the 1994 World Champion Montreal Expos T-shirts.

How SAD IS IT that one of the burning questions college football faces each year, is whether or not its season will be wrecked by the BCS? It's madness man. And not the good March kind.

I spent over 700 dollars on the college football season last year and in retrospect, I feel like I was robbed. Not because of the BCS screwjob the Sooners gave my beloved Longhorns, but because no true champion was determined in 2008.

This year, I am better prepared to see my 700 dollars go up in flames because I survived the disaster that was the completely inconclusive 2008 season, and I, along with every college football fan has hope that the 2009 season won't be wrecked by the BCS, hope that we fans shouldn't even have to have.

John Swofford, you suck. I'm ashamed to even have the same name as you, GREEDHEAD! You are why I go by JB. Okay, not completely why, but feel even better about being JB now.

In the end though Gator fan, don't feel too bad about your hallow 2008 crystal ball.

LSU has one more than you do.

JB sells shirts at www.ballintees.com and writes blogs once a year.

P.S: It's 9:46 am and OU still sucks.
